A Forward Email alternative

Forward Email is an open-source forwarder with a generous free plan. mxproxy does the same job another way: the setup lives in a dashboard, every message has a log entry and support speaks Portuguese. An honest comparison, with what each one does better.

In short

  • Only want to receive, for free, on several domains? Forward Email’s free plan is much more generous than ours.
  • Want to see what happened to each email and set everything up in a dashboard? That is what mxproxy is built for.

Side by side

mxproxy Forward Email
Free plan 1 domain, catch-all only, 1 destination, 10 messages/month, no SMTP Unlimited domains, catch-all and several destinations per address, no sending; the addresses live in DNS TXT records anyone can look up
Entry paid plan Personal: $4.00/month or $30.00/year, 1 domain, 100 forwarders, SMTP Enhanced Protection: US$3/month, unlimited domains and aliases, SMTP, IMAP mailbox with 10 GB
Reply as the domain SMTP with DKIM on every paid plan, for Gmail’s or Outlook’s “Send mail as” SMTP on paid plans
Mailbox No: forwarding only Yes, IMAP on paid plans
Message log 30 days, in the dashboard and the API Says it writes no logs or email to disk, except errors and SMTP sending
Servers Hetzner, in Finland (European Union) Mostly in Denver, USA
Open source No Yes

Forward Email’s public prices checked on October 20, 2026; mxproxy’s are shown in the currency of the plans page.

What Forward Email does better

  • A free plan with unlimited domains and no published volume limit.
  • A cheaper entry paid plan, which already includes an IMAP mailbox.
  • Open source: you can audit what the service does.

Where mxproxy is different

  • The addresses live in the dashboard, not in public DNS records, even on the free plan.
  • A log of every message for 30 days, with the reason for each refusal or delay: you can tell why an email did not arrive. If you would rather nothing be logged, Forward Email is a better fit.
  • A spam filter with an adjustable level per domain, and a Telegram or webhook alert when email reaches an address.
  • Servers in the European Union; dashboard and support in Portuguese.

What we keep and for how long is explained with no fine print in What we log.

Moving from Forward Email to mxproxy

Recreate the addresses at mxproxy (the dashboard imports a list), delete the forward-email= TXT records, replace the MX and the SPF include with ours and check with the checker. Each provider’s DNS, step by step, is in Guides.

Get your domain’s email in Gmail

Create the free account, add the domain and copy the records from the dashboard. The free plan covers one domain with a catch-all; replying as the domain comes with the paid plans.
